Puliyaampilly Namboori

മദ്ധ്യകാലത്ത് കേരളത്തിൽ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നതായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു താന്ത്രികാഭ്യാസിയായിരുന്നു പുളിയമ്പള്ളി നമ്പൂതിരി. അന്നത്തെ സമൂഹത്തിൽ നില നിന്നിരുന്ന കഠിനമായ ജാതി ഉച്ചനീചത്വങ്ങളെ വെല്ലുവിളിച്ചതിൻ്റെ പേരിൽ സ്വന്തം ജാതിയിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്താക്കപ്പെട്ട അദ്ദേഹം; എന്നാൽ പിന്നീട് അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽ ദൈവത്വം അവരോഹിയ്ക്കപ്പെടുകയും ഉണ്ടായി. അദ്ദേഹം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു എന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്ന അത്ഭുതങ്ങളിൽ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ടത് പ്രകൃതി ശക്തികളെ കൈയടക്കാനുള്ള സിദ്ധിയാണ്. അമാവാസി രാത്രിയിൽ രണ്ടു പൂർണ്ണ ചന്ദ്രന്മാരെ അദ്ദേഹം പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ടത്രേ! Puliyampilly Namboodiri is a deity who is believed to have lived in medieval Kerala, as a Brahmin tantric practitioner who was ostracised from his community for flouting stringent caste norms that existed earlier in Kerala. Among the many significant episodes mythologised about Puliyampilly was his ability to conjure natural spectacles, especially where he caused two full moons to appear in the sky on a new moon night.
