'The Master of the Ship' is the debut of Yuriy Yanovsky. This is a modernist novel, stylized as a memoir, which conveys the atmosphere of the 20s of the twentieth century. It has features of adventure, autobiographical and at the same time utopian and marine fantasy novels. The text is built as a memory of the narrator and the main character, but smaller texts of different genres and styles are also woven into its structure: letters, fantasies, dreams, stories, script ideas, etc. In this way, the reader becomes a witness of an exciting multi-level distancing from reality.
