Vom Herausgeber
'The Moor of Peter the Great' is a historical novel by the brilliant Russian poet, 'the sun of Russian poetry,' playwright and prose writer A. S. Pushkin (1799–1837). The author scrupulously collected materials about the events of Peter the Great's era, its traditions and way of life. And although the story is about a military engineer, General-in-chief and great-grandfather of Pushkin Ibrahim, the personality of Peter the Great is at the center of the story. Having decided to show the sabotage of people who opposed Peter's reforms, the author masterfully accomplished this. Pushkin created many other works: 'The Mermaid', 'Poltava', 'The Bronze Horseman', 'The Queen of Spades', 'Ruslan and Lyudmila', 'Eugene Onegin', 'The Litter House in Kolomna', 'The Prisoner of the Caucasus', 'On the Corner of a Small Square', 'Novel in Letters'. Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, during his lifetime, earned himself a reputation as the greatest poet Russia, whose work influenced the development of both Russian and world literature. The greatest merit of the brilliant poet is also that he became the creator of modern Russian literary language.
