Bristol, 1919. Unsophisticated but steadfast, Megan Williams has been forced to take a job as a kitchen maid at Redcliffe House to support her family when her father becomes too ill. Her sly cousin Lizzie is already a parlour maid with the Fothergill family. But there has never been any love lost between the cousins and Lizzie is determined to make things difficult for Megan.
