Van de uitgever

'The Adventurers' is a satirical sketch by the 19th-century American short story writer O. Henry (1862–1910). The narrator is firmly convinced that there are adventures in the world that make even an African safari and an elephant hunt pale in comparison. The author of stories with unexpected endings, O. Henry is known for a number of short stories: 'The Order of the Golden Ring', 'The Kali Diamond', 'A Thousand Dollars', 'The Detectives', 'The Gold That Glittered', 'The Bagdad Bird', 'The Scarlet Dress' and 'Comfort'. O. Henry, whose real name was William Sydney Porter, is considered the founder of the 'city tale' genre, where sparkling humor is combined with deep philosophical meaning.
